If you are a J.R.R. Tolkien fan you will realize that the title refers to the one ring which features heavily throughout his famous trilogy The Lord of the Rings. In the Trilogy a small hobbit called Frodo Baggins is tasked with destroying the one ring to ensure that it does not fall into the hands of Sauron a necromancer with untold powers. If Sauron ever gains hold of the one ring then he would rule middle earth sending it into darkness. Just as Sauron seeks the one ring in the trilogy, I have been seeking a tracker that allows me to monitor what I need to do on a daily basis.

I have found the answer in the form of the freemium “Way of Life” app. It is a very simple, easy to use “free” tracker app for Iphone that allows you to programme anything that you want it to track. Some examples that I use it for are:
- Meditating for 5 minutes
- Reading 10 pages of a personal development book
- Taking Vitamins
- Eating Healthy
- Exercise for 10 minutes
Programming the app to do what you want is easy. Just click New Journal, enter what it is you want to monitor, click whether it is good for you or not and away you go. It really is as simple as that. The app is free to use for up to 3 habits and then any more there is a paid version.
Once the journal has been set it is as simple as filling out whether you have done or not done your task. If you click yes (And your habit is a good one) then the square will turn green and reward you with positive sound, if you haven’t then it will turn red. It is a great way of positively reinforcing a habit that you are trying to set up. It also will give you motivation to carry on that habit.
If you like your visuals (like I do) the app also creates a bar chart of your progress, which you can check if your overall trend is upwards or downwards. Effectively “way of life” acts as your own pocket accountability partner that will always be there to remind you what you have or have not been doing.
Have a go at the app and let us know what you think about it in the comment section below. Any app that allows you to break old bad habits and create new better ones will allow even the smallest hobbit to defeat the mightiest necromancer.
